flames leap and dance

the air wonders briefly how it

survived without such warmth

Clouds of Longing

Painting by Jason Chan

The morning sun is shining yet there is a chill in my bones I cannot shake. I peek through the clouds of longing; searching once more for your presence.  I sledgehammer the wall of your resistance with raining love – but I still gain no entry.  Oh, how my heart pounds when I see your lovely face! My hands would love to caress your cheek and sing my heart’s song to you.  Please don’t go – remain in my sight until the moon climbs into the darkened sky.  My tears raining down from on high have grown a rose garden that shall warm your heart.  I will take flight on our love if you would only let me in.  From the moment I felt your soul’s essence I have sought to unify our hearts.  You are my other – I shall travel down from these clouds – to be unashamed in your presence.  The earth rumbles with my heartache – as you disappear from my sight once more. How long shall I await your return?! I will wait on my cloud of longing – slumbering with peace – the stars my blanket – the moon my laughing pillow.

Stillness of Night

My moon seeks the stillness of night

where ethereal dreams do take flight

horse drawn buggies hidden from view

illuminated by moonlight

bright twinkling stars arrive on cue

disillusioned but with no fright

my moon seeks the stillness of night

tendrils of smoke curl, what a sight

talons of love dug in, held tight

pinpricks of blood fall like fresh dew

captures the soul without a fight

the concept of love is now imbued

this is the sonata man’s night

where ethereal dreams do take flight

angelic voices sing with might

at the stillness, breath of two

these ethereal dreams do take flight

my moon seeks the stillness of night

Painting by Michael Leadingham

do you see a door

there is a door, I saw it

it is in my mind

pathway to the sea

my toes dig into the sand

I hear you calling

this secret doorway

seen only by Queen’s decree

contains life’s sweet dreams

in the silence of this hall

I hear only one thing

the soft rush of the sea

as it meets the waiting shore

I tilt my head in longing

and breathe the deepest sigh

then spin myself in a circle

arms down at my side

I step onto the warm sand

from the doorway in my mind

I sprint towards the sea

leaving fear behind

I splash into the water

fall onto my back and float

the sea pulling me further out

white clouds floating serenely by

I float until the stars say hi

then calmly step back through the doorway

into the silence of this hall

to smile

and be at peace

my heart pounds and I

reach beyond the heights of our love

into space beyond

the stars twinkle

laughing gently as they

begin to spell our names with their light

how often have the gods

envied the love which has

settled within our souls

one kiss from you

and the earth trembles

one look from you

and my heart erupts

with molten lava

what shall happen

when our souls converge

when two become one

and destiny begins

The Raven’s Night

The stars shine their deadly light

Raven feathers have blocked my sight

In the instance I become aware

The ominous bird will take flight

Irregardless of my awestruck stare

It causes my soul to ignite

As the stars shine their deadly light

And though I try with all my might

I cannot leave the Raven’s night

I watch the dark cloud’s silent tears

Obscure the stars’ deadly light

As if they have heard my soul’s warfare

And given me a moment’s respite

When Raven feathers blocked my sight

I wait, to see the feathers turn white

The lift of a curse, mid-air

Raven feathers have blocked my sight

As the stars shine their deadly light
