And The Raven Laughs

The night, so dark and lonely
The day, so long and unjust
Meets the warrior with truth
His lies fall on dead ears
His looks fall on blind eyes
And his secrets, they die with his soul.

The night, so dark and lonely
The day, so long and unjust
Meets the love with anguish
Her screams follow the wind
Her tears lead a march to dry land
And her secrets, they die with her heart.

Both look to the sky for comfort
Finding only angry clouds
And in the midst of their confusion
They cry out, reaching for the other
Finding not love, but pain.

Hand clasped at her breast
She pulls out what has been hidden
A dagger; it’s gleam reaches the moon
And as she plunges it into her chest
She cries, “Relief from this pain”
“Release of your soul.”

Hands tap the left wrist
One, two, three, four
He feels whole, he feels safe
Relief from this pain
Resurrection of his soul
His eyes turn black as he sneers.

and the raven laughs.

Voice of the Raven

Memory breeds in me strange loneliness. ~ William Herbert Carruth

I think I’m dead and a ghost

Of what I was before

Now I am not one to boast

I think I’m dead and a ghost

Travelling up the green coast

Tap-tapping on death’s door

I think I’m dead and a ghost

Of what I was before

(12/2010)

I found myself at a loss for words

On that brisk December morn

Something was wrong with my vocal chords

I found myself at a loss for words

They must have been cut with a sharp sword

That soothing voice I will mourn

I found myself at a loss for words

On that brisk December morn

(12-6-2010)

~ to be swallowed whole by this monstrosity ~

Butterfly at my window

Look not upon me with sadness

For I am still cocooned

(2010)

tiny crow feathers

lying on a barren path

bring color to dust

(11-30-2010)

so I caught a train to Aberdeen

to see a rock show in the snow

it’s the best show i had ever seen

so I caught a train to Aberdeen

I watched the snow fall through the screen

thinking fondly of E.A. Poe

so I caught a train to Aberdeen

to see a rock show in the snow

(12-2-2010)

a silent heart

hears only the things

it’s life whispers

as it passes through

its clear blue veins

(2010)

i have no face she says

this wicked embrace it ties

my hopes and dreams they lie

in wait for me to claim them

(2010)

The Raven’s Night

The stars shine their deadly light

Raven feathers have blocked my sight

In the instance I become aware

The ominous bird will take flight

Irregardless of my awestruck stare

It causes my soul to ignite

As the stars shine their deadly light

And though I try with all my might

I cannot leave the Raven’s night

I watch the dark cloud’s silent tears

Obscure the stars’ deadly light

As if they have heard my soul’s warfare

And given me a moment’s respite

When Raven feathers blocked my sight

I wait, to see the feathers turn white

The lift of a curse, mid-air

Raven feathers have blocked my sight

As the stars shine their deadly light
